The aim of this workshop is to give a general overview of the medieval period through a wide range of themed activities throughout the day.
Baron Hugh de Guerre will focus on the period from Hastings through to Richard II, although the activities cover a wide range of medieval life from 1066 to 1483. There is something to suit everyone — medieval dancing, a jousting game, finding out about the early medieval “arms race” and how weapons developed in this period.
The children will also see and handle a range of real archaeological finds and high quality reproduction artefacts from the period.
Your morning starts with a short talk on the early medieval period covering late Saxons into the Norman period, the rise of the Plantagenets through to Richard III and Bosworth.
This is followed by activities for the rest of the morning:
• MEDIEVAL QUIZ – Interesting facts to discover.
• BOOKE OF CURTESYE
• MEDIEVAL HIEARCHY and ARTEFACTS
The afternoon starts with arms, armour and their development from the Norman conquest to the crusade period. The grand tourney – a medieval jousting game will follow and the day finishes with a simple medieval dance.
The baron has appeared in BBC’s “Horrible Histories”, many feature films and historical documentaries as well as working in schools and museums.
